Writing Lyrics
When i write lyrics, i mostly come up with a topic to write about in my head first. Then i will write on paper or type up lots of lyrics using microsoft word documents or the notepad on my phone. Sometimes i will use a 909 drum machine app so i can keep the tempo i want it to go at.
I usually write as much as i can in the one go rather than doing it a small piece at a time. Some people may struggle with writing pages at a time, but i have quite a good brain to hand way of writing and rarely get any writers block. This is because of the sheer amount of writing that i have done - from keeping a dream diary, a life diary, positive affirmations, writing poems, writing rituals, writing prayers, writing plans for things i’m going to do, visualization scripts, small scripts for film ideas or comics, writing short books and just specifically for songs.
Sometimes i can write a song and only a few words will need changed. Other times i will decide to re-write a lot and try to find the right words to express what i am trying to convey to the listener. Usually i write about real things that have happened to me in a way that the listener will understand. Sometimes it’s poetic, other times it’s plain and simple!
